This is an original American Civil war Model 1860 enlisted man cavalry sword. High quality construction.

This is a 1864 dated U.S. Model 1860 Cavalry Sword with a metal scabbard that was manufactured by C Roby., W. Chelmsford Mass (displayed in an arch). This is a very nice sword overall.

The handle grip consists of a shallow groove, leather covered style with twisted wire to the end of the pommel cap. The sample for sale here is very nice. The wire wrap is totally intact and not loose. The leather is excellent for its age showing only a few small spots where the material is missing. Not very noticeable. 97% of the leather is present. The pommel is marked "56 M". The top end of the cross guard appears to be marked "A 47".

The "D" guard shows a very nice patina. it is nice and tightly attached to the blade. No rattling when the handle is gripped and the sword is shaken.

The blade is bright and straight with a very nice edge, no nicks or dings along the edge. Some very light staining is found along some parts of the blade.

The steel scabbard appears to have the original finish. It has two ring band mounts. There are a couple of shallow dents approaching the tip. The drag is stamped with the letter "M".

This is an example of the military antiques and collectibles available for sale in our store.
